| Comments | This Civil War ancestor of the Second World War British marching song,
"I've Got Six-Pence," must have a history that goes back to the earliest
"common soldier" armies of England. "I'll Be a Sergeant" is credited
to an unknown H.A.W. in this Civil War version, but it is quite apparently a reworking of
an older song. Songs of the Civil War, p.173. |
